If one views an object from sufficiently far away, it appears as a dot. If one gets closer, or uses, for example, a telescopic lens, one can see more details; what once looked like a dot now has complex structure. In LENS we hear the same material at different speeds, and when sped up fast enough, a few minutes of music become a split second of sound - metaphorically speaking, a dot. The piece starts in the tape part, playing music sped up in this way, and gradually shows it to us slower and slower, until it becomes possible for the ensemble to play. New material is then given, after which is sped up until it becomes dot-like.
